Congratulations to our Artist of the Month for December, Darrell Rodenbaugh!
Darrell joined the Plano Children’s Theatre as Governing Board President in 2010 and was elected for eight consecutive terms leading the organization to over 600% growth and to evolve into North Texas Performing Arts. Darrell has served as Chief Executive Officer since 2018.
Over the last 10 years, Darrell has created the AMP Awards, Acting Company for Excellence, North Texas Performing Arts organization and structure, the “Ten Characters,” and the NTPA – Academy. Under his leadership, new programs were successfully launched in Fairview, Frisco, and Dallas, and specialty troupes Starcatchers and Repertory were created.
Darrell was critical to the creation of the Willow Bend Center of the Arts. He secured bank financing, engaged the construction partner and designed much of the facility, serving full-time for almost two years as Project Executive. He recruited and worked alongside the incredible “Team of Steel” volunteers who generously contributed their time and talent to design and construct the mainstage theatres.
Darrell is a graduate and Trustee at Washburn University and earned his MBA at the University of Houston. During Darrell’s over ten years of leadership on behalf of NTPA, he has served on a pro bono basis and entirely without compensation.
This December, Darrell takes on the role of “Scrooge” in his tenth anniversary performance in Scrooge, the Musical! By the end of this year’s run, he will have performed over eighty times in the role on NTPA stages. Over a decade, Darrell has dedicated an estimated 2,000 rehearsal hours into this role and Scrooge, the Musical productions.
This year for the first-time ever, audiences can view Scrooge from the comfort and safety of their own home with a livestream high-quality video experience. Free livestream tickets are available for all local veterans, first responders, and those severely affected by Covid-19. Actors will be wearing masks and practicing safe social distancing at all times, and no more than 25 performers will be onstage at any time.
