Shift… An Art Exhibition about the Beautiful Chaos of the Mind

Katerina Frantzikinakis is a local artist from Dallas and an NTPA alumni. Since around the age of 12, she found comfort through doodling. Katerina would start at the corner of a page and fill every bit of the sheet with abstract doodles. Her mother bought her the first canvas and asked her to recreate what she does on paper on a canvas, and that’s where her painting journey started. Katerina is Greek, and Puerto Rican, so she takes a lot of her inspiration from Ancient Greek and Taino art. You can define the abstract style she uses as “Zentangle”. Her art also represents a lot of the chaos that she experiences in her own mind. “Sometimes the world can feel extremely overwhelming, and the best way for me to communicate the jumbled mess I’m feeling is through painting,” says Katerina. Although at first glance, it seems chaotic, when you examine Katerina’s art closely, you can see each line drawn with care and precision, and telling a story she hopes each person can interpret in their own way.
Katerina is expecially excited to have her first solo exhibition with North Texas Performing Arts where she has performed on the stages in productions like Cats, Sound of Music, Beauty and the Beast, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, Hair Spray, You can’t take it with you and as Isabel in the NTPA tradition of Scrooge.
